PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE IN THE WORKPLACE

Navigating the Perimenopause and Menopause in the workplace – how to help your employees.

As an employer you will be very aware of all the policies and procedures there are to look after your employees.  The menopause has been in the news a lot over the last few years with a big emphasis on how it affects women in the workplace. Unmanaged and unrecognised menopause symptoms have cost many women their career and this is why as an employer you need to be well informed to maintain your staff and keep your employees feeling valued in their workplace.

The main areas noted in current policies for managing employees with menopause symptoms are focussed on flexible working to help with sleep disturbances and exhaustion, a change in office environment to ensure better ventilation, giving more time or electronic reminders to help with planning to combat brain fog, a potential uniform change if hot flushes are a problem that may lead to showing sweat marks, providing a counselling service if needed to help women through a stressful time and creating a community within the workplace so staff can support each other not just for those going through the menopause but all life events so your workforce can feel valued and supported at all times.

All of the above are great strategies to have in place to help women who can struggle with their health during this time, but rather than just acting on what is suggested and putting them in to place out of legal requirements, why not go one step further to support your employees and gain a greater understanding of the health changes that can be happening with some of your employees so that you can relate to them much better and come alongside them with some support.

I can offer the extra insight into this period that your employees with female hormones are going through with an informative workshop that will allow you to fully understand about what is happening to their bodies during this time. You may have employees that can appear to have a real character change during this time, suddenly become inefficient with their time and develop a big feeling of overwhelm. Let me help you develop a better understanding and support your team with a holistic approach and boost team morale.
